Individual Achievement Award

The National OPSEC Awards Program presents first and second place non-monetary Individual Achievement Awards in recognition of outstanding individual accomplishments during the award period. The criteria considered include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Evidence of individual ability to identify and solve significant OPSEC problems, threats, or vulnerabilities;
  • Demonstration of outstanding leadership and knowledge in the application of OPSEC; and,
  • Innovative and creative use of resources (personnel, fiscal, or facilities) to successfully accomplish OPSEC-related goals and missions.

The nomination narrative should be no longer than three pages, single-spaced, and should describe the specific accomplishments of the nominee.

 
 

Organizational Achievement Award

The National OPSEC Awards Program presents non-monetary Organizational Achievement Awards in recognition of outstanding organizational accomplishments during the award period. The criteria considered include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Evidence of organizational ability to identify and solve significant OPSEC problems, threats, or vulnerabilities;
  • Creation or development of innovative programs for OPSEC training, education or awareness; and,
  • Mission accomplishments and successes at the organizational level resulting from the application of OPSEC.

The nomination narrative should be no longer than three pages, single-spaced, and should describe the specific accomplishments of the nominated organization.

 
 

Multimedia Achievement Awards

The National OPSEC Awards Program presents two non-monetary Multimedia Achievement Awards in recognition of outstanding multimedia accomplishments during the award period. These awards are designed to stimulate the development and distribution of OPSEC-related education and awareness materials. The two Multimedia Achievement Awards categories are:

Electronic Media Award (e.g., videotapes, CDs); and, Print Media Award (e.g., posters, brochures). The criteria considered for both categories include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Possess a valid OPSEC educational, training, or OPSEC awareness theme or message;
  • Artistic value and visual impact;
  • Completed during the fiscal year being evaluated; and,
  • Include a certification that products contain no copyrighted material and, if applicable are for in-house only.

Each electronic and print nomination should include a narrative not longer than two pages, single-spaced, describing the media, its use (i.e., training, awareness, etc.), benefits, and what was accomplished through the use of the media.

Posters must be mounted on poster board and be no larger than 30” x 40”. If possible, please submit six copies of the nominated video, DVD or CD. If the submission is a videotape, please provide a master copy in one these formats: Bet Cam, DVC Pro, or Digi Beta.

 
 

George F. Jelen Literature Achievement Award

The National OPSEC Awards Program presents one non-monetary Literature Achievement Award in recognition of outstanding literary accomplishments during the award period. Topics or subjects suitable for submission include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Technical aspects of any or all components of the OPSEC process (listed below)
    • Identification of Critical Information
    • Analysis of the Threat
    • Analysis of Vulnerabilities
    • Assessment of the Risk
    • Application of Countermeasures
  • Relationship between OPSEC and:
    • Information Operations/Assurance
    • Security and or Intelligence Issues
    • National Security
    • Risk Management
    • Other Related Disciplines
  • Lessons learned
  • Impact – Dissemination of the article or its circulation in a publication
  • Possess a valid educational, training, or OPSEC awareness theme or message

Nominations may be made for an individual document or for a body of work (e.g., a series of OPSEC-related articles). Documents or manuscripts should reflect originality, clarity and consistency of thought; present an idea or concept with significance or impact; and, if feasible, advance solutions to an OPSEC problem.

The submission must be a minimum of 5,000 words. Documents must be composed in Microsoft Word or equivalent, single-spaced, with 1” margins, using Times New Roman 12 point font. A hard copy and an electronic copy (either disk or CD ROM) are required. Please certify that no copyrights were infringed upon in this submission.
