Great news, especially for many of our customers and partners located in the eastern part of the U.S.! The Interagency OPSEC Support Staff (IOSS) is pleased to announce the 2008 Eastern OPSEC Forum, to be held at the National Center for Language and Culture Research, College Park, Maryland from 15-17 September 2008.

Capitalizing on successes from the most recent OPSEC Forums (February 2008 in Las Vegas, NV and September 2007 in Dayton, OH) and adding an array of OPSEC-focused learning opportunities, the Forum will be one of the most important OPSEC events of the year.

The first day will offer several OPSEC training modules, helping attendees focus on ways to improve their OPSEC programs, or learn new facets of sound OPSEC practices. Directions -

7005 52nd Avenue
College Park, MD 20742
*Please note that you will not find 52nd Avenue on any mapping programs, including Mapquest or Garmin. However, if you do look on a mapping program, 52nd Avenue IS located right next to 51st Avenue, just not in writing. Please call 301-226-8949 (Monica Alexander) with any questions or 301-226-8900 (Front Desk)

From Fort Meade / NSA
Take BWI Parkway (Rt. 295-South) for approx. 8 miles. Take the exit for Rt 193 (sign reads Greenbelt/NASA Goddard). Ramp ends at traffic light, where you will make a left towards Rt. 193-West, following signs for University of MD, College Park. Once you veer onto Rt. 193-West, you should prepare for a left turn exit, about 3-4 lights ahead, onto Rt. 201-South/Kenilworth Ave. After traveling approx. 2 miles, take the right onto Paint Branch Pkwy and travel 1/2 mile to make your final turn onto 52nd Avenue (52nd Avenue is immediately following the indoor ice rink). As you make the LEFT turn onto 52nd Avenue, you will see a black wrought iron gate approx. 1/4 mile ahead, where you will find the entrance to CASL.

From Metro

Take the Metro Green Line to College Park/University of Maryland.

Walking directions from College Park Metro station include a few options:

NOTE: The walk takes about 5 minutes. If you need a ramp (e.g., for a wheelchair), there are ramps the entire way EXCEPT the direct route from the MARC/Metro station to the crosswalk. You will have to go to your right around the concrete island, in the street for part of the way, but it's not the high-traffic area and you will be able to get onto the island without going onto the main road (River Road). There are ramps the entire way thereafter.

Shortcut: From the Metro station, use the brick crosswalk on River Road leading to FDA building (building across from the Metro). Turn right at the FDA building, walking under the roof structure. Take the second pedestrian left, which is the first blacktop path. Proceed down that path, bearing straight at all times. Ignore the honking geese. You may honk back, but do not feed them. The FDA parking lot will be on your right. Cross the unlabeled road (51st Street) on the painted crosswalk. Continue straight on the white sidewalk, which will lead you right to the guarded entrance to CASL.

Longer Walk: Walk towards the FDA building (opposite of Metro), crossing River Road. Once past the FDA building, continue straight to 52nd Avenue. Turn right on 52nd Avenue and follow to the guarded entrance to the end (black wrought iron gate).

From Beltway

Take exit 23B (MD-201/Kenilworth Avenue) towards Bladensburg. Merge onto Kenilworth Avenue/MD-201 S towards Bladensburg. Turn RIGHT onto Paint Branch Pkwy. After traveling 1/2 mile, turn left onto 52nd Avenue and follow to the end (black wrought iron gate).

From Route 50

Take Route 50 West to the Capitol Beltway (I-495). Go North/West on I-495 to 23(MD-201/Kenilworth Avenue) towards Bladensburg. Merge onto Kenilworth Avenue/MD-201 S towards Bladensburg. Turn RIGHT onto Paint Branch Pkwy. After traveling 1/2 mile, turn left onto 52nd Avenue and follow to the end (black wrought iron gate).

From I-95 South

Merge left onto I-495 E. Take exit 23 (MD-201/Kenilworth Avenue) towards Bladensburg. Turn RIGHT onto Paint Branch Pkwy. After traveling 1/2 mile, turn left onto 52nd Avenue and follow to the end (black wrought iron gate)

Meals and Drinks

Morning and afternoon snacks and beverages will NOT be provided and lunches will be on your own and at your own expense.

Use of Fragrances

The Information Assurance Directorate (IAD) is committed to being a model employer. To this end, to be mindful of those whose sensitivity to fragrances may be heightened, we are encouraging participants at IAD-sponsored events to refrain from wearing, or reduce their use of, scented products.

If you have any questions, please contact Linda Heaton at 443-479-4645.
